The fictional California Museum of Anthropology scenes were mostly filmed at the Page Museum of La Brea Tar Pits disoveries on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. A false sign was installed on the front entrance to film the entrance.
A hall with human evolution and a diorama of early cavemen were installed as a set inside the museum atrium for filming.
The animal bones are all real display pieces. Most are still on display. The laboratory where human remains are being worked on is the actual museum laboratory, which is visible to the public. However, the human remains in the movie were props.
